In a network oriented to the anonymity of cryptocurrency Monero held hardfork. The update, which is designed to protect the network from ASIC miners, was activated on block # 1788000.
It is reported that the Monero network is now protected from the big bang attack, which is based on the dynamic block size algorithm. Using a vulnerability, an attacker could increase the block to 10 TB in just a couple of days, which would disable most of the network nodes. Also, developers have added a set of "fictitious data", which will increase the similarity of transactions and make them even more anonymous.
Note that after the upgrade, users also need to update their cryptocurrency mining software. Since hardfork increased network resilience to mining with the help of ASIC devices, but not all users updated their software, the network hash rate decreased significantly. If before the update it exceeded 1 Gh / s, then the current hash rate is 434 Mh / s.
The developers warned users that before the complexity of the extraction is not corrected, the blocks will be mined much slower.
Interestingly, Monero cryptocurrency remains the most popular among attackers using cryptodocumentation. A study conducted at the beginning of the year found that about 5% of Monero was mined using malware.
