The Asia-Pacific Conservative Union launches a blockchain ecosystem to combat authoritarianism.

Two leaders of the Asia-Pacific Conservative Union (APCU) launched the Liberty Ecosystem, a blockchain-based network designed to fight authoritarianism. This is reported in the press release of the organization.

The co-founders of the project are the chairman of APCU, Jikido Aeba, as well as the CEO and co-founder of the organization Yasu Kikuta. In a press release, this initiative is described as "a decentralized federation of local interest protection and economic development organizations seeking to combat the growth of authoritarianism in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world."

According to the announcement, countries like China are investing in foreign infrastructure projects, seeking to establish control over the political sovereignty of other countries. But such use of economic power for political control began to lead to the export of an authoritarian government model to other countries, such as Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Japan.

The press release explains that the blockchain-based project involves the use of so-called “Freedom Tokens” to create a common community and financial infrastructure designed to empower local organizations struggling with authoritarianism. The initiative also collaborates with the Wowoo ecosystem of symbolic economics.

As the media reported last November, while Thailand has been under the control of military dictatorship since May 2014 — with censorship on the Internet and a dismissed senate — the country has shown support for the blockchain technology and cryptocurrency on both a public and private scale.

It has long been assumed that advocacy is one of the most important cases of using Bitcoin. However, United States whistleblower Edward Snowden expressed concern about the long-term outlook for Bitcoin in an interview last March, saying that the public blockchain cryptocurrency made him susceptible to abuse.
