Browser mining service Coinhive will stop work on March 8.

Coinhive, which provides website owners with the opportunity to extract Monero at the expense of visitors, will end on March 8. This is reported in the company's blog.

“We have been working hard on this project for the past 18 months, but, to be honest, it is no longer economically viable,” - the company representatives say.

The main reasons for the decision Coinhive considers the fall of the network hashrate due to the last Monero hardforka and the cryptocurrency price decline by more than 85% during the year.

“These factors, as well as the hardfork and Monero network algorithm update, scheduled for March 9, led us to discontinue support for Coinhive.”

Despite the fact that browser mining will stop working on March 8 of this year, user access to the administration panel will be open until April 30. Coinhive customers will be able to make payments until this time if the minimum amount for payment is reached.

The Monero protocol will be updated at block 1788000. Among the expected innovations: the new PoW-algorithm CryptonightR, dynamic block size, reduced transaction size, increased confidentiality.

Earlier, researchers at the University of Aachen came to the conclusion that in 75% of cases hidden miners mined Monero cryptocurrency.
