Sparkpool returned to the sender a transaction with a commission of $ 300,000 in Ethereum half the amount.

The Sparkpool mining pool reported that it was able to verify the sender of the Ethereum transaction with an unusually high commission and returned half of the erroneously sent funds to it. This writes CoinDesk.

According to the representatives of the pool, on February 25 they received an email from an anonymous user saying that on February 19 he sent the transaction, mistakenly paying 2,100 ETH (at that time about $ 300,000) as a commission. This is 600 times higher than the standard net remuneration of 3 ETH at that time.

In order to make sure that the user actually completed this transaction, Sparkpool asked him to send to the pool-specified address 0.022517 ETH from the same address from which the erroneous transaction was made.

As the data of Etherscan show, at 09:15 UTC of the same day, the user actually sent the indicated amount to the pool, after which the parties began to discuss further steps for the refund. In the end, they agreed that Sparkpool leaves half of the received commission to the miners cooperating with the pool, and returns the other half to the sender.

Confirming his agreement with these conditions, on Monday, March 11, the sender transmitted from his address 0.666 ETH with the comment included in the transaction hash:

“Thanks to SparkPool and your miners for helping us recover losses. As a thank you for your honesty, we are ready to share half of 2,100 ETH with miners. ”

Today, Sparkpool returned 1,050 ETH to an unlucky user who, it is claimed, was an employee of one of the South Korean blockchain companies.
